Cash awards planned for power-saver consumers
Distribution companies have stated that power cuts are inevitable, and energy conservation is the only way out for now. The discoms are contemplating giving cash awards for consumers who save power in order to encourage energy conservation. They will come up with an action plan on conservation of energy in order to conserve energy.
Pointing out that each unit saved is equivalent to 1.2 units generated, the department estimated savings of over 10,000 MU through energy conservation measures. The department in an open letter to electricity consumers has appealed to the consumers to inculcate the habit of energy conservation as a social responsibility. The letter says that as a short-term measure, 1,300 MW per month of power supply has been tied up and the power utilities are in process of purchasing 1,000 MW per month from June 2013 and June 2016.
“In spite of taking all measures, though it is painful, power cuts have become inevitable in view of the ever-increasing demand and to protect the grid from collapsing,” the power utilities said. Among the tips the discoms put out are to use natural air and sunlight to the maximum, avoid using of ACs and prefer fans. It recommended use electronic regulators and chokes for fans and tubelights.
