Byelections force Naidu to postpone party’s Mahanadu
The Telugu Desam politburo has decided to postpone the party's annual conclave, ‘Mahanadu’, scheduled from May 27 to 29, till after the byelections.
The politburo, headed by party president N. Chand-rababu Naidu, took the decision in view of party leaders’ preoccupation with the byelections for 18 Assembly segments and one Lok Sabha seat.
The decision was taken amidst calls for holding the Mahanadu in one of the poll-bound constituencies. However, the politburo meeting decided to celebrate NTR’s birthday on May 28 in a big way across the state.
“The Mahanadu has been postponed since the leaders and cadre will be preoccupied with byelections in 12 districts and it will be difficult for them to come all the way to Hyderabad or any other place,” politburo member K. Yerrannaidu said.
Earlier, Mr Yerrannaidu said the bypolls would be treated as mini-general elections and would require focus.
