Bookings on, but no sign of Aakash
The ambitious plan of the state government to supply Aakash tablet to 10,000 poor students fails to take off even three months later. Reason: DataWind, the manufacturer of the low-cost tablet, is yet to deliver the order. The state government is still waiting for the supply of the low-cost version of the tablet. Commissioner, technical education, Mr S. Balasubramanyam, said, “We are still waiting for the response from the Central government as it is Centre’s project.”
Thousands of people, who booked the Aakash tablet way back in December last year, are still waiting to lay their hands on it. “I placed an order for it in January but are yet to receive the delivery. The company continues taking bookings for May,” said Lava Kumar, a student of Lal Bahadur Education Society. He is frustrated with his experience to buy the much-awaited Aakash tablet, an ambitious project of Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal and his ministry.
Rahul Khalasi from Begumpet ordered his tablet on December 26 last year and is still waiting to be updated on its status. Social networking sites have been flooded with complaints from people who have ordered the tablet and even made advance payments. With no delivery in sight, it is shocking that the company is still taking bookings for the tablet on their official website.
Worse, the company does not think it necessary to keep customers updated about their bookings.
Simram Chadda a resident of Nampally, even questions this whole project, doubting that the ultimate outcome of this will be same like other Government plans that could not pick up.
