Bhanu in court today
The police on Saturday arrested M. Bhanu Kiran, wanted for the murder of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy, alias Maddela-cheruvu Suri. CID additional director general of police S.V. Ramana Murthy said, “On January 3, they were travelling by car with Suri in the front seat and Bhanu in the rear seat. Bhanu shot Suri dead at Navodaya Colony in Yousufguda and used a scooter which was following, to escape.”
After the murder, Bhanu went to Gurgaon in Delhi. He never stayed in one place for more than four to five days. He lived in Seoni in Madhya Pradesh for some time. He never came back to Andhra Pradesh. He was in Puducherry for the past one month. He had fake PAN, driving licence and other identity cards. The CID plans to write to the relevant authorities to discover how Suri could have got these documents.
Others accused in the case, who were arrested earlier, are Manmohan Singh, S. Subbaiah, Venkata Hari Babu and B. Venkat Ramna. Bhanu will be produced before the sixth ACMM court judge on Sunday, seeking judicial remand. CID SP Venkateswara Rao led the operation that resulted in arrest of Bhanu Kiran.
Bhanu’s arrest raises questions
Bhanu Kiran, accused in the Maddelacheruvu Suri murder case, was seen smiling as photographers took his pictures during the press conference. He did not seem shocked, which makes it difficult to buy the police theory that Bhanu was arrested on Saturday morning at 10 am when he came to Zaheerabad to pick up a money bag.
Though CID additional DG S.V. Ramana Murthy denied that Bhanu had surrendered with the help of politicians from Rayalaseema or former Paritala Ravi’s aides, there are several question marks on the entire episode. Bhanu was also asked about his Tollywood links. “He admitted to Tollywood links,” said Mr Ramana Murthy. When asked about Bhanu financing Rakta Charitra and his links with Ram Gopal Varma, he said, “No such information has come out. We will seek Bhanu’s police custody and get more information.”
When asked about former minister Diwakar Reddy and former Paritala aide Chaman’s involvement in the supposed surrender of Bhanu, the senior cop said, “It was not surrender. Bhanu was arrested by CID teams.” Despite repeated requests by the reporters, Mr Ramana Murthy didn’t allow Bhanu to speak. He also denied the involvement of home minister Sabita Indra Reddy or her son Karthik Reddy in the arrest.
