BE colleges seek owner’s quota
In a blow to the state government and engineering aspirants, the managements of engineering colleges are planning to file a petition in the AP High Court soon, urging it to issue directions to the government to include management quota seats too in the Eamcet engineering counselling, since there is no difference between the merit and management quota when Supreme Court ruled common fees for both seats. The issue is likely to further delay the Eamcet engineering counselling.
The Consortium of Engineering and Professional Colleges Management Associations has decided to approach High Court over the issue within a week. “When there is common fees for both convenor and management quota seats as per the SC orders, there is no point in conducting separate admi-ssions for these seats. Moreover, combined admi-ssions will reduce financial burden on students and parents. This can be avoided if the government includes management quota seats too in the Eamcet counselling,” said Nimmatoori Ramesh, general secretary of the consortium.
However, the government is apprehensive over including management quota seats in the Eamcet counselling, anticipating an “unnecessary trouble” in future. The government is reimbursing the fees for only those students who take admissions in Eamcet counselling. If management quota seats too are included in the counselling, the demand for extending the same benefit may arise from these students too, besides leading to “legal complications” in future.
At a time when the government is struggling to bear the fees for convenor quota students, it is averse to take any risks over the issue by including management quota seats as demanded by the colleges.
