BBMP paid twice for road work
A fund-starved BBMP, it seems, does not mind paying contractors twice over for work already completed in Chikpet constituency! Lack of diligence on part of the civic body has left it poorer by a whoppping ` 4.76 crore. The BBMP has released the said amount twice for asphalting and concreting of four roads in Dharmarayaswamy Temple ward in Chikpet assembly constituency, which has been unearthed by the Technical Vigilance Cell under the Commissioner (TVCC). The TVCC was instrumental in bringing the mega scam of 1,539 crore in three divisions — Malleswaram, Gandhinagar and Rajarajeshwarinagar — to light. Subsequenlty, the investigation into the scam was handed over to the CID.
According to the highly placed sources, the asphalting work was executed in 2009-10 and Rs 4.76 crore was paid to the contractors Aishwarya Constructions the same year. The money was released towards asphalting and concretising of four roads - Albert Victor Road, Hyder Ali Khan Road, Vani Vilas and part of N.R. Road near Apsara Theatre in Dharmarayaswamy Temple ward. Shockingly, a like amount was been released to the contractor in 2010-11 for the same work done in 2009-10.
