Bar council to act against pro-T lawyers
The Bar Council of AP decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against advocates who were part of the violence in AP High Court during the Telangana agitation. Sources said the Bar Council’s decision came in the backdrop of Supreme Court’s anguish over the Council’s failure to start proceedings against the errant lawyers. At a formal meeting here on Wednesday, the Bar Council executive committee decided to conduct a general body meeting to get views of members before proceeding further in the matter. Bar Council chairman A. Narasimha Reddy said the general body meeting will be conducted within a week to decide the course of action.
Sources said the High Court registry has, with the help of police, identified about 40 advocates who took part in vandalism. The police has registered nine cases against the advocates, with two of them naming 39 advocates as having taken part in the action. Most of them are from subordinate courts of the twin cities, and Ranga Reddy district. “After the general body meeting we will issue notices to advocates, as also constitute a panel to examine their replies to decide further course of action against the lawyers,” Mr Reddy told this newspaper.
