Bank manager reveals bribe money transactions
The Corporation bank manager B. Bura Naik revealed to CBI and ACB officials about how the investment was made in the cash-for-bail scam. As per Mr Naik’s statement, the accused Chalapathi Rao has opened five lockers. “On May 10, a locker was opened in the name of Chalapathi and his wife. Another locker was opened in the name of his son Santosh Phani on May 11,” Mr Naik said.
However, the application for the lockers was filled only partially, without the further details of the customer, said the investigators. On May 12, three more lockers were provided to Chalapathi Rao. The retired judge didn’t reveal the source of cash to the bank official. “On May 12, Chalapathi brought two suitcases with cash and he went into the locker room. I have obliged him in good faith as I didn’t know about the issue,” said the bank manager.
However, there is no entry made in locker operation register. Mr Naik also said, “On May 18, Ravi came and introduced himself as son of Pattabhirama Rao and a friend of Chalapathi Rao. He told me that he was authorised to operate the lockers in the name of Chalapathi Rao. When I refused, he made a call and said ‘Daddy, the branch manager is not allowing me to operate the locker’.” However, Chalapati Rao told the agencies that he did not know who Yadagiri was and he didn’t take Rs 3 crore as bribe for Gali’s bail. He said the cash was from selling his ancestral properties. Chalapathi Rao also denied the allegations, and said that he had handed over the locker keys to Ravichandra for safety.
