Banjara Hills-Masab Tank flyover to link RGIA
Commuting from Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills to the international airport at Shamshabad will be a breeze if the GHMC has its way. The civic body has decided to construct a flyover from Road Number 12 junction at Banjara Hills to Masab Tank, via Chacha Nehru Park. Covering the stretch from Road 12 to PVNR expressway takes more than half an hour during peak hours.
The GHMC has decided to appoint expert consultants to conduct a feasibility study on constructing the flyover to ensure easy commuting to and from the airport. Mayor Majid Hussain and GHMC commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu said the project cost, including land acquisition and compensation for properties to be taken over in these upmarket areas, will be between Rs 250 crore and Rs 300 crore.
Earlier, the mayor and the GHMC chief reviewed the status of road widening in the old city with local MLAs and decided to speed up work on widening 40 roads in the area, and a few others in other parts of the city, at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. The civic body has set a target to widen most roads by year end. GHMC will set up a third special land acquisition unit and strengthen the legal wing to accelerate the road-widening process. The civic body will also take the Advocate General’s help to deal with legal issues and compensation matters.
Besides, services of two more deputy collector-cadre officers will be taken to deal with court cases regarding road widening, the mayor said. It was also decided to hand over five or six roads to the district collector for land acquisition, while GHMC will take care of the rest. “All seven MLAs from the old city agreed to cooperate with road widening projects. Political will is crucial to speed up work,” mayor Majid Hussain and GHMC chief Krishna Babu said.
