Back to bachus, Man drives wife to suicide
A private school teacher who set herself on fire a few days back allegedly due to the harassment of her husband, succumbed to injuries on Saturday. The deceased, K. Bhagya Laxmi, 37, wife of Yadagiri, a resident of Uppuguda was a teacher at Saraswathi Vidyaniketan at Tukaramgate.
Malkajgiri police said that she had lodged a complaint that Yadagiri was harassing her. Later, a compromise was reached in the case and everything was peaceful for seven years. However, Yadagiri resumed consuming alcohol and started harassing his wife. Police said that Yadagiri was a drunkard, and used to harass his wife for money to buy alcohol. After selling all her ornaments to buy liquor, Yadagiri started asking for her mangalsutra, which she refused to give. She kept the mangalsutra at her parents’ house.
On April 19, she brought it back. Seeing the mangalsutra on her neck Yadagiri demanded it and took it by force. After this Bhagya Laxmi poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. Bhagya Laxmi was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, and she died on Saturday. The police registered cases under Section 498 and 306 of IPC against the husband and has started investigation.
