Babus to sue TG Venkatesh for killer remark
IAS officers have decided to take legal action against minor irrigation minister T.G. Venkatesh for his remarks that officials who aren’t committed should be shot dead. They have also decided to meet Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to press for action against the minister.
The minister’s comments made in Kurnool on Friday created a furore in bureaucratic circles. It comes at a time when the government launched its Indiramma Baata programme from Sat-urday, which involves officials reaching out to people at the grass-roots level.
The IAS Officers’ Association, AP branch, on Saturd-ay convened a meeting of its emergency executive committee and condemned Mr Venkatesh’s remarks. It adopted a unanimous resolution stating that the minister’s remarks would incite the public and create law and order problems.
“Loose talk of mob justice by the minister lowers the dignity of his own office, demoralises the bureaucracy and affects the image of the government. The minister is duty-bound to steer the affairs of the government in accordance with the law and the Constitution,” the resolution adopted by the association stated.
“It is ironical that the minister made unsavoury comments at a time when the state government has launched Indiramma Baata to reach out to the public,” said Raymond Peter, senior IAS officer and general secretary of the association.
