Babu’s kin under scanner
CBI investigations into the assets acquired by M. Rakesh Babu, brother-in-law of senior IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, and his possible nexus with her are underway. The investigating agency informed the CBI court of the same while opposing her bail plea in the illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC). “Investigations into various angles, including the monetary benefits alleged to have been obtained by the accused for favours shown to the other accused, is in progress,” the CBI told the court. Citing several high positions held by Srilakshmi as well as her husband, a senior IPS officer of the rank of additional DGP, the CBI submitted to court that she is likely to influence witnesses if released on bail.
The CBI dismissed as baseless Srilakshmi's allegation that the supplementary chargesheet was a replica of the main chargesheet filed on December 3 last year and it was mala fide on the part of the prosecution. “She has abused her official powers by procuring mining leases for the other accused in the case notably at a time when they required the permits to justify their (illegal) mining activity carried out elsewhere," the CBI told the court.
Sharing official communication between the Government of AP and the Union Government with regard to seeking clearance of mining lease with Mr D. Rajasekhar, a representative of Obulapuram Mining Company Private Limited (OMCPL), established her conspiracy with other accused, the investigating agency told the court. The court adjourned the case to April 25 for the next hearing.
