Azad to shortlist party candidates
AICC general secretary in-charge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad will preside over the third state Congress coordination committee meeting on Sunday. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister D. Raja Narsimha, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, K. Chiranjeevi and other members of the coordination committee are expe-cted to attend the meeting. Sources said the meeting has been primarily called to discuss the possible candidates and to prepare for the forthcoming bypolls.
Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy is likely to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Monday and brief her about the party’s strategy for the bypolls.
It is believed that Mr Azad will discuss the delay in implementation of the decisions that were taken during the second meeting of the panel on holding civic body polls, filling up the nominated posts for various PSUs, etc. Questions on why the state leadership did not go ahead with municipal polls, based on Census-2001 data are expected to come up for discussion. Mr Azad had been categorical that the civic body polls should be held before the bypolls so that the Congress could get the results required to nullify any eventuality of the YSR Congress bagging a majority of the seats. However, now that the bypolls had been announced, that opportunity has been lost.
