Assembly gets closer to people through website
People from across the state can directly bring their grievances to public view through the AP Legislature's website — www.aplegislature.org —which was inaugurated here on Saturday. Through the e-petition link any citizen can bring to the legislative members' notice a general or community grievance which would be registered and acknowledged, said tech-savvy Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar, while launching the website, his brainchild.
The website has 3,11,000 pages devoted to the debates that took place in the Legislature body since 1952, and they will be accessible for the first time to the 385 members of the legislature — both the Assembly and the Council. Members can browse the website to get constituency-wise information, relating to development initiatives by the government or details of beneficiaries of the state government’s flagship programmes.
Mr Manohar said that the updated details of assets and liabilities of members, hitherto confined to sealed covers, would now be available on the site for public view. As part of the paperless administration of legislature, the website would provide more opportunities, both for the individual member and the general public, to know and to assess the performance of the legislature, he said. The website would be more informative and elaborate than the Parliament website. Members can submit their questions too, the Speaker added. Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani wanted to know why similar websites could not be started by the respective departments.
