Andhra Pradesh on top of road accidents list
The state continues to top the chart among all the other states in the country when it comes to road accidents.
Twenty per cent of these accidents are due to drunken driving, a smaller number of accidents are caused by mechanical failure and the largest chunk can be attributed to human error. While around 70 per cent of the accidents are due to human error, the remaining can be linked to: road error, geometry, climate and other factors.
The Road Transport Authority had planned to introduce a special drive against drunken driving on highways earlier this year to curtail the number of accidents, but did not have an adequate number of breathalysers.
Officials say that the drive will be launched after a month, as soon as a sufficient amount of breathalysers have been procured.
