AICC’s choice is a cultural ambassador
Senior Parliamentar-ian T. Subbarami Reddy, a native of Nellore district, joined the Congress in 1985.
He won the Lok Sabha election from Visak-hapatnam in 1996 and 1998. In 2002, he was elected to the RS and re-elected in 2008.
He was Union minister of state for mines from 2006 to 2008. At present, he is the chairman of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology.
He founded Gayatri Holdings and has business interests in construction, sugar and chemicals.
In 1967, Dr Subbarami Reddy was awarded a gold medal by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi for his contributions to the construction of the Nagarjunasagar dam.
He also has interests in the film industry. He produced a film in Sanskrit, Bhagavad Gita, which won a National Award for best feature film, and also a Hindi film about Swamy Vivekananda.
Dr Subbarami Reddy recently launched the TSR Lalitha Kala Parishad, an organisation for the uplift of Telugu culture and tradition. He was twice chairman of the TTD.
