Advocate claims threat to his life
Advocate B. Chandrasekhar Reddy, who has filed a case in SC against the police for fake encounters, said that he was facing threats to his life. Hearing Mr Reddy’s case, the Supreme Court had recently made significant observations about auxiliary promotions to policemen who had taken part in encounter killings. “Every time the cops withdraw my security, I knock the door of the Apex Court to get it back. They had also opened personal file on me, branding me as an extremist element. But I got a stay in court against it,” he said.
Mr Reddy had filed a PIL in SC protesting the auxiliary promotions for encounter cops in 2006. “The incident of the police shooting down a boy, Lava Kumar, who had gone to his field at night to switch on a motor at Dubbaka of Medak, took place on April 8. The incident had moved me and I took up the case. I am not supporting any extremist group. I am only opposing the cops resorting to extra judicial killings,” he said.
In 2007, Mr Reddy filed a PIL regarding the release of convicts like Gouru Venkat Reddy during YSR’s regime. “They then opened a personal file against me and started tracking me and filing reports. The same was stayed later. I was given a gunman on the SC order following threat to me and my family,” said Mr Reddy. He added that he is still facing the threat.
