Admission for management MBBS seats set to go online
Ignoring stiff opposition from private medical colleges, the state government is going ahead with its plans to implement online admissions for 40 per cent management quota seats in MBBS courses to ensure merit and transparency. Officials of the medical education department convened a meeting at the Secretariat on Saturday to finalise the norms for making online admissions for management quota seats by the government as suggested by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.
The recommendations will be submitted to the minister for medical education Kondru Murali next week. The minister is expected to refer the issue to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who will take a final decision. The government is under intense pressure from private medical colleges not to bring any changes in management quota admissions this year, as most of the colleges have already closed admissions for this year. The officials say that the colleges should be asked to accept online applications for management quota seats after issuing notifications in two newspapers. The applications should be referred to the NTR University of Health Scie-nces, which will prepare a “merit list” after scrutinising the applications. The merit list will be placed on the website and students can lodge complaints, if any. The NTRUHS will then allot seats through an online mode, and students have to pay the prescribed fees of Rs 5.5 lakh per annum.
