ACP submits report on torture by cop
Two women were allegedly tortured by a sub-inspector of police when they were summoned for an enquiry to the Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) police station on Friday night. Kukatpally assistant commissioner of police M. Malla Reddy has reported the matter to the Cyberabad commissioner of police D. Tirumal Rao and said that an inquiry would be ordered and action taken.
Sub-inspector G. Saidulu has been suspended after a Telugu TV channel broke the news through a sting operation on Saturday. He was from the latest batch of sub-inspectors, having been posted at the police station 10 months ago, sources said. On Friday night, the two sisters, Laxmi and Durga, residents of Addagutta Society in KPHB Colony, were summoned by the sub-inspector regarding an alleged kidnapping case in which their brother Nagaraju was involved. While the enquiry about their brother’s whereabouts were on, the police officer started beating them up with a strip of hard rubber, cut out of truck tyres.
Both women cried out in pain, one of them falling to the floor, while the sub-inspector continued beating them, according to video footage telecast by the TV channel the next day. Legal opinion has it that a case under IPC Section 330 (for voluntarily causing injury to extort confession) should be booked against the police officer.
