Acharya says real culprits have escaped

Incarcerated senior IAS official and former home secretary B.P. Acharya alleged on Wednesday that the “real culprits in the Emaar case had got away scot-free”. Mr Acharya, whose bail was cancelled by the AP High Court, said that he had been implicated in the case as part of a conspiracy. However, he didn’t reveal who the “real culprits” were.

On a philosophical note, he added, “It’s a fight between dharma and adharma. My conscience is clear. I have never taken a bribe in my career. APIIC shares were not reduced as alleged in the chargesheet.” When asked about his feelings on being lodged in the Chanchalguda Jail as till recently he was heading the department, he said, “Maybe I went inside because of my previous karma. I have turned philosophical in jail. I am innocent and will come out clean.”
