ACB to summon Karnataka legislators
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) probing former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy’s cash-for-bail scam is likely to effect more arrests in the case.
ACB sources said that summons may be issued to two former Karnataka MLAs Gali Somasekhar Reddy and T.H. Suresh Babu as well as other accused named in both the cases before the state government takes a decision on handing over the cases to CBI.
An ACB official said, “The CBI has written to the state for handing over the case. But since no decision has been taken, we will continue the probe.”
The first case pertains to offering of bribe to the suspended CBI special judge T. Pattabhi Rama Rao through retired judge Chalapathi Rao and history-sheeter Yadagiri, following which the judge granted bail to Gali Janardhan Reddy.
Pattabhi, Chalapathi Rao, and Pattabhi’s son Ravi Chandra have been arrested.
The second case pertains to attempts made by two other judges Prabhakar Rao and Lakshman Rao, along with a realtor, to secure bail for Gali. The ACB has built a strong case against the remaining accused. The accused Yadagiri Rao has confessed that he received Rs 9.5 crore in instalments from MLAs Somasekhar Reddy, Suresh Babu and G. Dasrath Ram Reddy between May 11 and May 18.
Part of the money was given to Chalapathi Rao and others, while another part was his share. Details of Yadagiri’s telephonic calls proved his links with Gali’s relative Dasrath Ram Reddy, an accused.
Based on Yadagiri’s confession, that he had received cash from MLA Somashekar Reddy and others for the bail of Janardhan Reddy, the ACB seized cash from his house.
