ACB submits probe report on liquor scam
The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday submitted a status report on its ongoing investigation into alleged liquor scam in sealed cover to the AP High Court. The status report was submitted to a bench comprising Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar after a citizen, O.M. Debara, moved the court seeking monitoring of the ACB probe. Mr Debara had complained that the several public servants, including politicians, ministers and MLAs, received bribes from the liquor mafia and the state government has been suppressing the facts and trying to protect the political leaders involved.
The ACB officials brought two trunks, loaded with documents and material seized during recent raids all over the state, to the court. The Chief Justice asked the ACB authorities why they had brought the trunks containing 18 volumes of documents to the court and directed them to take the boxes back. The bench posted the hearing to Thursday.
Notice to state on diet bids
The High Court on Monday issued notices to the state government on plea by former chief dietician of Osmania General Hospital A. Narayana Reddy, challenging the decision of the government of inviting bids for selection of diet contractors to supply diet to the inpatients of various government hospitals and medical institutions.
Mr Narayana Reddy contended that government ought not to have invited financial bids, as the selection of diet contractors through bidding would ultimately lead to commercial considerations and be detrimental to the patients as the contractors will focus on profits while preparing the diet. The court granted two weeks to the government to file a counter affidavit.
