80 colleges face derecognition
As many as 80 engineering and other professional colleges located within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region limits are faced with the threat of losing their recognition and affiliation.
After a series of warnings, the Hyderabad Metro-politan Development Autho-rity has written to the All-India Council for Technical Education to derecognise these colleges.
The HMDA has also shot off letters to the Jawaharlal Nehru Tech-nological University to cancel the affiliation of these institutions, as all of them are unauthorised by virtue of either violating the land use norms or the building rules, and in some cases, violation of both categories.
HMDA commissioner Neerabh K. Prasad said, “We have also written to the social welfare department to stop all concessions and benefits to these institutions.
Even the higher education department officials have been requested to take stringent action against the managements of these instutitions.”
HMDA had earlier served notices on about 260 engineering, MCA, MBA and other professional colleges to get their land use chan-ged appropriately and also regularise the college buildings after paying penalties.
About 160 colleges have submitted their applications for regularisations. However, nearly 80 of them have not come forward despite repeated notices. So the HMDA has finally written to the higher authorities to derecognise them.
