8 Congress LS MPs suspended over T
The ruling Congress on Tuesday got eight of its own members from the Telangana region suspended from the Lok Sabha for four days for repeatedly disrupting the proceedings of the House over the demand for a separate state, the first time in parliamentary history that ruling party members have been suspended in a group.
The action came on the first day of the second part of the Budget Session. The last week of the first part, which ended March 30, was lost over the same issue. Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal moved the motion seeking their suspension, which was adopted through a voice vote. Prior to that, Mr Francisco Sardinha, who was in the Chair, warned the agitating MPs of action if they failed to return to their seats. Ponnam Prabhakar, Madhu Yaskhi Goud, M. Jagannadham, Komatreddy Rajagopal Reddy, G. Viveknanda, Balram Naik, Gutta Sukhender Reddy and S. Rajaiah were the suspended MPs.
