7-member gang strikes house at Bolarum
A gang of robbers broke into a house at Bolaram in the early hours of Monday, threatened the residents, a 45-year-old woman and her teenaged son, and decamped with gold ornaments weighing 15 tolas, and Rs 15,000 in cash. Police said the incident happened at Rukmini Enclave at Battanguda, Bolaram, at around 2.30 am. “A gang of seven broke open the window of the house using screwdrivers and other equipment. When the owner Vijayalakshmi, and her 18-year-old-son Sashank Reddy tried to raise an alarm, the robbers gagged them and demanded money,” said Inspector B. Pushpan Kumar of the Alwal police, who is investigating the case.
The houseowner, Ms Vijayalakshmi, a widow, said seven people wearing sleeveless T-shirts and underwear removed the window grills and came into the room when she and her son were asleep. “They tied us up and started threatening us in Hindi. They demanded money and gold, and threatened to kill us if we refused,” she said. Vijayalakshmi said two of the gang members watched over them while the other five searched the house for money.
After collecting the money and gold they went away. Immediately after the incident, the family informed CCS West Zone Police inspector P. Venkatgiri, who lives in the same colony. He informed the Alwal police. Since the gangsters spoke in Hindi, the police suspect that the thieves could be from North India or Maharashtra.
