50,000 AP students appear for last batch of IIT-JEE

Over 50,000 students from Andhra Pradesh will appear for IIT-JEE on Sunday. The exam will be held in seven centres across the state — Hyderabad, Guntur, Kurnool, Nellore, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Warangal. This could be the last batch of students taking IIT-JEE, with indications that the Centre may introduce Iseet from next year, so students are keen that they clear the test this year.

A total of 5.06 lakh students across the country have registered for the IIT-JEE this year, an increase of nearly 20,000 from last year, when there were 4.86 lakh applicants. Now, the competition will be stiff with 53 students vying for one seat. JEE chairman Prof. G.B. Reddy said students should use a black ball-point pen this year and not a pencil.

This year, the IITs have mandated that general category students must get a minimum aggregate score of 35 per cent. OBC students must get at least 9 per cent in individual sections and 31.5 per cent in the overall score; for SC/ST candidates, the minimum to be bagged in each section is 5 per cent and 17.5 per cent must be the minimum aggregate to be on the rank-list. JEE is held in two parts with three papers each — chemistry, mathematics and physics. The first part will start at 9 am and will go on till 12 noon, while the second part will begin at 2 pm and will continue till 5 pm. The test will be held on an optical reader sheet.
