2 killed, 3 injured in ORR mishaps

Two persons died and three others were injured in an accident on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) when a paddy-laden truck hit another speeding truck at Shamshabad early on Wednesday. A separate accident at the Shamirpet stretch of ORR left the son of a former minister dead earlier on Tuesday night. Police said the Shamshabad accident took place at around 3.30 am on one of the major interceptions and diversions of ORR. The driver and cleaner of the paddy-laden truck died on the spot and three others sleeping in the truck’s cabin received injuries.

According to police, K. Surender Reddy, 37, of Sagar Ring Road, Hasthanapuri, and K. Sukhya, 33, of Chandanpet village in Nalgonda district, died. The injured trio — K. Manktha, K. Tirupati and G. Venkataiah — were admitted to the Trident Ho-spital at Shamshabad. Inspector C. Anjaiah of Shamshabad police said the paddy-loaded truck was co-ming from Pedda Amberpet and headed toward Pattancheru.

As it reached a major interception and diversion of ORR at Shamshabad, another truck speeding ahead suddenly stopped, leading to the crash. The driver of the truck in front sped off immediately, the inspector said. “We suspect the truck that caused the accident was loaded with coal, as we found coal spilled on the road,” he said, adding that cases against the driver had been registered under Sections 304-A and 337 of the IPC. The police said the driver might have applied brakes suddenly due to confusion since there are several diversions at the spot.

In the earlier accident, police said the deceased, Dr Praveen Teja, 35, son of former minister Mr Puli Veeranna, was taking a sharp turn near Shamirpet when his car overturned. He died on the spot. The victim was driving a Ford Fiesta on Kandlakoya-Shameerpet stretch of the ORR, yet to be opened to traffic, when the accident occurred at around 8 pm. “It seems the doctor lost control and rammed the median and then hit against the railing and the car turned turtle,” a police official said.
