2 ex-generals in custody for Adarsh scam

CBI officials on Wednesday arrested three more persons in the Adarsh Housing Society scam including retired Army official Maj. Gen. A. Rajendra Kumar, 69, from Hyderabad. The other two who were arrested in Mumbai were Maj. Gen. T.K. Kaul (Retd) and Mumbai Collector Mr Pradeep Vyas, now secretary (expenditure) in the Maharashtra finance department.

Gen. Kumar was taken into custody at around 9 am at his residence in Yapral and produced before the Chief Metro-politan Magistrate’s Court which granted the CBI a two-day transit warrant. He will be produced before a CBI court in Mumbai. The CBI has named Gen. Kumar as accused number four in the FIR. According to CBI counsel Mr B.P. Raju, the accused had fraudulently and dishonestly issued an NOC for construction of the 31-storeyed residential building though he was not the competent authority.
