Cate decides to go behind the camera
After two decades of performing in front of cameras, Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is now stepping behind the scenes for her first directorial job. The 44-year-old Blue Jasmine star is set to helm a physiological thriller titled The Dinner, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The film, set at a dinner in Amsterdam, will explore the story of just how far some parents might go to protect their loved ones. Two brothers, one running for prime minister of the Netherlands, must make a tough decision regarding their teenage sons who have committed an unspeakable crime. Based on Herman Koch’s best-selling novel of the same title, the project will be produced by Cotty Chubb.
Blanchett is not a complete stranger to directing. She has been serving as a co-artistic director of the Sydney Theater Company along with her husband, playwright Andrew Upton. She once directed playwright David Harrower’s Blackbird and Joan Didion’s memoir The Year of Magical Thinking.
