Punjab, UP in summit clash
Punjab will take on Uttar Pradesh in the final of the Federation Cup men’s hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi.
Punjab got the better of Tamil Nadu, whereas Uttar Pradesh defeated Karnataka in the semi-finals to set up the final clash.
The event is being organised by the Indian Hockey Federation.
In the first semi-final, Uttar Pradesh rode on a hat-trick by vice-captain Diwakar Ram to beat Kartnataka 5-2. Sarabjit Singh and Sunny Sonkar were the other goal scorers for Uttar Pradesh. For Karnataka, Kushal J.P. scored the first goal in the 11th minute to give Karnataka an early lead but it was only short lived. The other and the last goal of the game came at the 65th minute from Umesh K.R.
In the other semi-final, Punjab streamrolled Tamil Nadu 5-1 to make it to the final. Tamil Nadu went ahead in the fourth minute with a goal from Adam Sinclair. But thereafter, it was all Punjab. Parvinder Singh (9th, 70th minutes) and Sendhil Kumar (43rd, 58th minute) found the net twice while Rajin Kandulna was the other scorer for the winners.
