Delhi in semis despite big loss
New Delhi: Hosts Haryana and Delhi secured their semi-finals berths in the 3rd Hockey India sub-junior women’s national championship (North Zone) in Sonepat on Friday. Haryana made the cut from Pool A, hammering Delhi 8-1.
Devika scored a brace, while Ritu, Reet, Navpreet, Manpreet Kaur, Navneet Kaur and Manisha scored once each for Haryana while Delhi’s lone strike came from Manisha. Despite the loss, Delhi too reached the last-four. In Pool B, UP defeated Punjab 4-1.
In the men’s meet, Punjab defeated Jammu & Kashmir 12-0 in a Pool B game. Kawaljit Singh scored seven goals for Punjab followed by Shubkarman (3) and Inderjit Singh (2). In another Pool B game, Haryana beat Himachal Pradesh 5-2.
