C’garh, Haryana emerge winners
Chandigarh pipped Punjab 2-1 to win the men’s championship, while Haryana took the top honours in the women’s section of the 3rd Hockey India sub-junior national championship (North Zone) in Sonepat on Monday.
Punjab took the lead in the 20th minute through a field goal by Kawaljit Singh. But the joy didn’t last long as Chandigarh struck back three minutes later through Manjinder Singh.
In the second half, Chandigarh controlled and dictated the pace. And finally a field goal by Harmeet Singh in the 64th minute helped his team emerge victorious.
In the women’s summit clash, Haryana got the better of Chandigarh 3-1.
Two goals by Udita at 14th and 24th minutes saw Haryana leading 2-0 at half time.
Chandigarh though reduced the margin through Anjali in the 50th minute, Haryana’s Navpreet Kaur scored a field goal in the 61st minute to take the match out of Chandigarh’s reach. Navneet scored maximum number of goals (9) in the championship.
Meanwhile, Hockey Maharashtra entered the final of the West Zone junior hockey outplaying Rajasthan 5-1 at Mumbai Hockey Association Limited Ground on Monday.
In another semi-final, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy thrashed Chhattisgarh 12-0.
