Big wins for Delhi, Meham schools
Delhi’s Guru Harkishan Public School, Government Senior School of Meham, and Bengaluru’s Army Boys Sports Company recorded thumping victories in the 41st Nehru boys U-17 hockey tournament in the capital on Saturday.
Guru Harkishan Public School rode on braces from captain Inderpal Singh (44th, 45th mins) and Harmandeep S. (21st, 55th) to thrash Directorate General NCC (B) 9-1.
Leading 4-1 at half-time — thanks to the back-to-back goals by their skipper just before the lemon break — the same script unfolded in the second half for the Delhi school as goals continued to pour in with very little resistance.
Meanwhile, the Meham side outplayed Khajamian Higher Secondary School, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, 8-3.
Dharmender, who gave the Meham side the lead in the eighth minute, scored again in the 43rd and 57th minutes as they found the net five times, followed by their 3-2 lead in half-time. For the Tamil Nadu side, Manikandan (18th, 28th mins) struck twice.
Earlier in the day, Anand Nag and Harish scored a double each as the Army Boys defeated St Ignatius School from Ghumla, Jharkhand, 5-2.
