Air India emerge champions
Air India beat Punjab & Sind Bank 2-0 in the final of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh men’s hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in the capital on Saturday. The Airmen scored a goal in each half to secure the title.
The match was goalless till the 29th minute when Prabodh Tirkey gave his team the lead through a penalty corner conversion.
The second half followed the same pattern with neither team being able to provide the finishing touches to the chances that came their way.
However, the Airmen struck in the 57th minute through Vikram Pillay to seal the match for the Dhanraj Pillay-coached side.
The winners earned `1.5 lakh for their efforts, while the runners-up took home `1 lakh.
