Gyro-late your way to fitness
Ever wondered how celebrities like Madonna, Jennifer Aniston and Kim Cattrall maintain their fabulous figures? Here’s the secret — Gyro-lates. It’s the latest fitness regime doing the rounds in Hollywood and even Bollywood stars like Tabu have taken to it.
Gyro-lates is a combination of a machine-based pilates workout with dance moves, yoga, swimming and Tai chi and trainers swear by it. Fitness experts say the success of this form of workout owes to the fact that it is “wholesome”. Says Hemal Shah, celebrity fitness trainer and Tai chi expert, “Gyro-lates covers Tai chi, kickboxing, yoga, dance as well as pilates. This ensures complete strengthening of the body. Muscles are developed and one burns calories as well. The process is called ‘time for some serious fun’ because kickboxing is light and energetic and Tai chi focuses on core strengthening.”
An interesting fact that experts point out is that this form of exercise is also suitable for those suffering from habitual eating and drinking patterns. Says fitness expert M. Ershad, “While this form of workout is effective for those who are overweight, it also works wonders for those who are addicted to alcohol. Since it involves high-energy workout, Gyro-lates keeps the body active and helps in maintaining perfect balance.”
The spinal, leg and arm movements involved in this workout help in flexing the body. “Tai chi helps one connect through the body and the gyrotonic workout increases flexibility. Even those who are above 30 years benefit from this workout,” says Emanuel, senior trainer of a leading gym chain, adding, “Even women can practice these combination workouts. While the functional training helps burn calories, Tai chi and yoga strengthen the joints.”
