Gain without pain

Mirror mirror, on the wall, who’s the prettiest of them all?
Answer: The stunning babe who’s just had a collagen shot! Staying young and beautiful has never been so easy. Gone are the days of a stiffened face after being injected with botox, or those sleepless nights post-facelift. It’s an easy process now. All you have to do is apply a facial fruit pack with a high collagen level and — voila!

Those wrinkles vanish and you look at least 10 years younger. Want to look young and beautiful? Try it. Instead of injecting, simply apply grape, spinach, blueberry and other fruits and vegetables that have high collagen level.
Celebs have already discovered the magic of collagen. Stars like Megan Ward, Catherine Zeta Jones, Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie and Lisa Rinna all call collagen their magic potion.
Dr Rohit Batra, Delhi-based cosmetologist, explains why collagen is now becoming one of the most popular ingredients in the beauty business. “Collagen has the power to reduce wrinkles. It helps in the anti-ageing process. And with fruits and vegetables added in them, they are good to go!”
Sylvia Natraj, a beautician, agrees that the fruit factor makes it more saleable. “Today nobody wants to use any products that have chemicals in them. Everyone’s going the herbal way. As people age, the body’s production of collagen tends to reduce. This is when such products work their charm.”
With no pain comes gain. Doesn’t it sound inviting? Dr Rohit introduces a word of caution, “However herbal or organic the product may be, there will be a certain proportion of chemical, too.” He reminds consumers that every product base is chemical and the ingredients added, only help market the product. “People tend to forget that every cream, lotion or facial mask have their base in chemicals and that is why all these products come with a warning.”
When asked about the side-effects and allergies to such a high content of collagen in the skin, Dr Rohit replies, “Anyone can be allergic to anything, but it is important for people to apply such masks and facial creams to one part of the body and wait for a reaction. This is not being followed at parlours across the country.”
Sylvia also elaborates why in certain cases professional help is required. “There are many homemade pack recipes available online, using high-collagen-level fruits. But it is important to use them under professional guidance. Such creams and lotions do come with procedures recommended and it’s important for an individual to follow them,” adds Sylvia.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
