Galande claims maiden win
Rookie Shweta Galande clinched her maiden title, winning the 9th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour, at the Clover Greens golf course in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Shweta, who displayed consistent golf throughout the event, carded a one-under 69 on the final day to aggregate a total of 201 for 54 holes.
Her final round was laced by three birdies on the 2nd, 6th and 17th holes against two bogeys on the 3rd and 18th holes.
Veteran Kolkata golfer Smriti Mehra finished runner up with a total score of 204 (64,75,65). Smriti played a power packed final round carding the day’s lowest score of five-under 65 with birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 9th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes against bogeys on the 8th and 11th holes.
Local golfer Sharmila Nicollet, who came back to the tour post an ankle injury, also played consistent golf to finish third with a total score of 208 (70, 69, 69).
Chandigarh’s Sanniya Sharma (75, 67, 67) and local amateur Aditi Ashok (68, 70, 71) finished tied fourth 209.
Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor ended fifth 210 (73, 67, 70).
The tour now moves to the Royal Springs Golf course in Srinagar for the 10th leg from September 16 to 19.
