Frenchman Levet tips city golfers
Thomas Levet should have been left with a feeling of dismay after his opening round effort at the Avantha Masters. But the former Ryder Cup player left the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida on Thursday with a smile.
He had carded a level-par 72 to finish the day tied 78th. On Friday, Levet missed the cut along with other Ryder Cup stars Colin Montgomerie, Edoardo Molinari and former champions Andrew Dodt and Jbe Kruger.
Shorty after his round on Thursday, the Frenchman was seen busy giving tips to around 15 local youngsters at a Golf Foundation clinic. He walked down to the driving range to educate the budding young golfers, aged from six to 15, who were drawn from the capital and its surrounding area.
In the group was seven-year-old Shubham Jaglan, son of a milkman, who was keen to imbibe some lessons from the golfing star.
Jaglan has learnt to play golf by watching clips on the internet.
In the last two years, he has won more than 60 junior tournaments, most recently with an aggregate score of nine-under par.
Delighted to see the enthusiasm of his group, Levet, a winner of six European Tour titles, said: “These youngsters have lot of potential, and they seemed so keen to learn. Many of them have got the basics right, which is a very good sign. I am impressed, hopefully they will keep going in the game and maybe even have a future career in golf.”
Earlier in the day, top Indian players Gaurav Ghei and Anirban Lahiri, both three-time winners on the Asian Tour, conducted the Emirates Clinic, attended by nearly 30 children, many of whom train at the Jaypee Greens.
