Chikka, Joshi to headline 5th edition
S. Chikkarangappa and Khalin Joshi will hog the limelight when the fifth edition of the Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival tees off at the Karnataka Golf Association in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Chikkarangappa and Joshi, who received special invitations for the festival, will be challenged by Chandigarh golfer and Arjuna awardee Harmeet Kahlon. Kahlon will be playing at hole one on the third day of the festival during the ‘Beat the Pro Straightest Drive Challenge’, which is an added attraction to the Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival as a celebration of its fifth edition.
The festival will also witness the participation of country’s top amateurs including junior champion Syed Saqib Ahmed and Anisha Padukone in a field of around 450 golfers from across the country.
Another attraction of the festival will be legendary cricketers G.R. Vishwanath, Erapalli Prasanna, Syed Kirmani, former hockey player Ashish Ballal and tennis star Rohan Bopanna taking a swing during the four day tournament.
Looking forward to the event, Chikka said, “It will be my third year at this festival and I’m really happy to be invited by Toyota. It’s an exciting concept where both a scratch handicap youngster my age or a 40 or 50-year-old club level player can get a chance to play at an international tournament like WGC as part of a team.”
The festival will also be an opportunity for the golfers to fight out one of the five spots in different categories (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-24) to make the Indian amateur team, that will participate at the annual World Golfers' Championships at Durban, South Africa next month. The tournament will be played in the Stableford format.
