‘Golf Festival’ at Eagleton from today
More than 300 golfers will battle it out at the Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival which tees off on Friday morning at the Eagleton Golf Resort here.
Leading senior corporates, businessmen and top government officials will be seen in action in the three-day event. Top performers from the five different categories will be chosen for the World Golfers Championship final to be held in Hua Hin, Thailand from October 30 to November 6.
WGC has participants from players from 40 countries. “This will be a qualifying event for the WGC. With a huge number of the participants this year, I’m sure we’ll have the best players vying for the top spot,” said Rishi Narain, former Asian Games gold medallist and event organiser.
TKGF’s sole aims to create awareness about Karnataka as a world golf destination and in turn will bring huge revenue from tourism. “We have the best climatic conditions to play golf and it’s turning into a major golfing destination. I believe this will help us to attract golf-loving tourists with this event,” said K. Jyotiramalingam, Principal Secretary of Government Tourism Department.
With city boasting with three golf courses, Jyotiramalingam insisted that more courses will be constructed throughout the state. “We already have courses in Coorg, Chikmagalur, Belgaum and Mangalore. If we receive good response from the tourists, we will develop make it a destination,” he added.
