IP is the way to go today

The recent advent of the new generation digital technology has brought broadcast video in the lime light. Thanks to this technology we now have High-definition (HD) TV, 3D TV and the ultimate Holographic TV. During this progressive span, Audio broadcast took a back seat. The Home-theater surround sound and Dolby digital evoked the

taste of true sound and consumers savored real rich sound; since then there is no looking back, now they want similar sound quality from their TV and satellite broadcasts. The coming years will see Audio make a major comeback on the video broadcast scene!
TV channels in India will soon broadcast Dolby 5.1 surround sound audio. Earlier this year, Airtel digital DTH ( Direct to Home) service from Bharti Airtel announced its decision to use Dolby Digital Plus as the surround sound format for its new HD DTH services and Set-top boxes. All service providers and broadcasters are presently fully focused on replicating the consumer experience of cinema surround-sound direct at their home. Trying to relay these effects through airwaves is not so simple, it is a new wave game and the learning and implementing process will pose a formidable challenge.

HIGH DEFINATION
With most channels all set to launch HD channels and with exclusive movie channels being launched in this format, HD will be the next big thing in the video world. Sophisticated compression technology is the call of the day to fit this bid thing in small packages. So, let’s be all set to add some more figures to MP3….MP4…
The next upcoming technology on the cyber horizon is IP (Internet protocol). Presently it should have been leading the race but for strange reasons hasn’t taken of as yet. Failed attempts by MTNL to revive IP and its abortion at entry level from Reliance are evidence of its shaky start. None the less we are confident that IP is the technology trend to watch out for in the years to come.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
