Three Lions too weak
The British Isles have been in a party mood this past week, what with the extravagant Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, an elongated last weekend and a slow but steadily growing feeling of dread at the upcoming European Champion-ships.
That England and international football tournaments haven’t gotten together for the past 46 years is a common joke.
A big trophy have remained an agonising dream, threatening to reduce the national setup to a circus of sorts, with manager after manager refusing to break the regressive mould of dull, grinding football created over decades of single-mindedness.
Roy Hodgson took over as England manager barely a month or so before the Champion-ships are due to begin, and while that may serve as a valid excuse for England’s portended shambolic showing, it doesn’t explain why Michael Carrick, Micah Richards, Rio Ferdinand, Daniel Sturridge, Cleverley, and to stretch it a bit, Paul Scholes, will be lazing on a beach watching inferior players play in their positions. Jordan Hen-derson, Ste-wart Do-wning, Glen Johnson and to stretch it a bit again, Andy Ca-rroll, have little right to be anywhere near the their clubs, let alone the national squad.
