It is official now. The captains and players who will be participating in the Soccer Ala football festival to be held Edavanna Seethi Haji Stadium in Malappuram from May 15 onwards have been decided after the auction held in Kozhikode.
In the star-studded auction, the team Sevens Strikers Eranad sealed the deal for the Indian forwards Sunil Chhetri and N.P. Pradeep.
Soccer Sulthan, a team from Areekode, has bought M.P Sakeer, former Viva Kerala player midfielder, who is now with Churchill Brothers.
Another Churcill’s player Mohammed Rafi has signed the deal with his home team Shooters Kasargod.
The most priced player in the I-League Odafe Okolie of Mohun Bagan was bought by Super Heroes Thrissur, a team formed by Non-Resident Keralites in the auction.
Wayanad lad C.S. Sabeeth, who rose to glory in the final round of the I-League, found place in Kings Kozhikode team.
Terrific Tuskers Thiruvanananthapuram will feature Ajayan, the present captain of Chirag United Kerala. Another player from Chirag United Kerala has found place in Ernakulam team Strikers along with Golden Threads players Chimezie and Monday.
Dhanraj, who is playing for Mohun Bagan and a native of Kannur, will captain Seven Samurai Kannur team in the tournament. The players and club owners have been asked to not reveal the amount of auction.
“This is going to be one of the major football festivals in Kerala. We are certain that this will be a big hit,” says P.Shamsudheen, the president of Foundation for Indian Soccer Achievement (FISA), which is conducting the 10-day tournament.
The season ticket for the tournament is being sold at Manjeri Fifa Sports, Manjeri Korambayil Cloth Mart, Nilambur Persian Jewelers, Vandoor P.A.K Textile, Edavanna Nice Wedding Collection, Anupama Gold, Ponnara Jewelers and Areekode K.R Bakery.
