Opportunity knocks for Kerala players

It has been just two months since the 2011-12 I-League season was wrapped up, but the Indian transfer market has already picked up momentum and several Kerala players have grabbed good opportunities, especially from clubs in West Bengal.

The makeover of Bengali football teams has also drawn an opportunity for Kerala players as the clubs have already signed in several players who have shone in the last season.

Chirag United Kerala striker and captain Anil Kumar, who was loaned out from Dempo SC, is on the top list as he signed into West Bengal giants Mohun Bagan.

As Indian captain Sunil Chhetri has left for the Portuguese side, the Sporting Clube De Portugal B team, and the Brazilian striker Jose Baretto leaving the club, the striker will be having a better opportunity now, as compared to his former club Dempo SC.

Another major move is of that Denson Devdas to Mohun Bagan from Prayag United. “It has been a good experience playing for Prayag for the past five years. I hope my stint at Mohun Bagan will be as good as it was with Prayag,” Denson says.

While Prayag lost a Kerala midfielder to Mohun Bagan, they compensated it with signing in Malappuram lad MP Sakeer from the Goan side Churchill Brothers.

Prayag United, who are in a spending spree this season, did not stop there. They have also made offers for Chirag striker C.K. Vineeth, midfielder Asif and winger Usman Ashik. “Asif and Usman will be playing for Prayag the next season.

I have not yet decided whether to move or not. There are some technical problems and I am trying my best to solve it,” says Vineeth. Pune FC defender Anas Edathodika is also linked to Prayag United, but it has not been confirmed.

Meanwhile, it is almost sure that Churchill Brothers striker Mohammed Rafi and Mohun Bagan’s N.P. Pradeep will be leaving their clubs. Rafi and N.P. Pradeep will be playing for Dodsal United, a second division team from Mumbai next season.
