JSW unveils Bengaluru Football Club

The JSW Sports, one of India’s largest business conglomerates, officially launched its football team — Bengaluru Football Club — at a gala show in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Bengaluru FC will be make their I-League debut this season and will play their home matches at the Bangalore Football Stadium. The club have roped in former Manchester United player Ashley Westwood.
Along with the name, the club unveiled the squad, the crest and team colours at the event which had JSW Group’s chairman and managing director Sajjan Jindal, All India Football Federation president Praful Patel and Karnataka State Football Association president A.R. Khaleel were among those in attendance.
“This is a landmark moment for everyone at JSW as well as the football-loving people of Bengaluru and India. We are certain the club will raise the bar for professionally-run football teams in the country along with being the ideal platform for youth development,” Jindal said.
AIFF head Patel said it was “a great day for Indian football”.
“There are a few hotbeds in India as far as football is concerned like Goa, Kolkata and Kerala and we believe Bengaluru will get there too,” said Patel.
Westwood, who will join the squad soon as the manager, said, “We will, without doubt, be the most organised outfit in the I-League and we look forward to many successful years with the club.”
India skipper Sunil Chhetri will lead the I-League side, which also has the likes of striker Robin Singh.
