I-League player Velho dies of cardiac arrest

Indian footballer Soccor Velho, all of 29, who represented Air India in the 2012-13 I-League season, died of cardiac arrest a few hours after having played in a friendly in Goa.
Velho passed away after complaining of severe chest pain, having played for Margao XI against the India Under-19 side in Goa on Saturday. He breathed his last on his way to a hospital.
Velho had been playing for Air India for the past six years.
It was learnt that the player complained of severe chest pain after returning home from the match. Velho’s wife took him to the hospital but he collapsed on the way. Velho is survived by his wife and a one-year-old daughter.
The player, who turned out for a team put together by Salgaocar FC youth team coach Joaquim Crasto against an India U-19 team, was known to be quick on the right side of the field and had the penchant for opening up space for the strikers.
According to sources, Velho played the game without any problem. “He suffered a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital,” a source said.

Deepika stunned in recurve event, settles for silver
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, June 23

Top-ranked archer Deepika Kumari suffered a shock defeat to Rimil Buriuly in the gold medal match of the women’s recurve event at the 3rd national ranking archery tournament at the Yamuna Sports Complex here.
In a tight clash, the 19-year-old Deepika was stunned in the tie shootout 2-0, 2-0, 0-2, 0-2, 1-1 (10-10) as Rimil’s shot was closer to the centre.
Deepika, representing Steel Plant Sports Board, took a two-set lead, but Rimil was not ready to give up and fought back to win the next two sets. In the decider, the points were tied before Rimil sealed the issue with a closer shot to the centre. Both the archers had hit a 10 pointer in the tie shoot. “It was hot and humid here. This had an effect on the performance as we came into the event straight after the 2nd leg of the World Cup where the weather was cold,” Rimil of the Railway Sports Promotion Board was quoted as saying.
In the men’s recurve event, Atanu Das clinched the gold medal beating Tarundeep Rai by six sets to four.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
