Exciting weekend at English Premier League
The crystal ball is back. Well, so to say, because the one I used last week turned out to be faulty. But I’ve taken it back to the company I bought it from (Everybody s**** up Inc.) and have a brand new crystal ball and it’s predicting a crack-a-lacking weekend.
Saturday
Liverpool vs Arsenal
Eight goals in a game. Four from the home team, and four from one away player. We were treated to this at Anfield three years back.
Incredibly, only one of the three scorers from that night at Merseyside remains actively involved in this fixture and he no longer plays for the Kopites. Yossi Benayoun scored a brace that night for the Reds, one more than he has scored in an Arsenal jersey. Andrei 4-hit-wonder Arshavin is in Russia. Fernando Torres, who is in Chelsea now, is in no rush to score goals since.
Their non-involvement however will be the last thing on the minds of the Liverpool fans. And rightfully so, after they were gifted the Carling Cup by Championship side Cardiff.
This will be the first match for the League Cup champions since winning the title at Wembley last Sunday and the fans at home will be overjoyed with their team’s first trophy since 2006.
Playing Major Buzzkill in this fixture will be a team whose trophy drought has lasted longer than the Director’s cut of the latest Sooraj Barjatia film. That team, ladies and gentlemen, is (drum roll) Arsenal F.C. (I know, surprise)!
But it was at the Emirates last weekend that Arsenal produced a performance that they hope will turn their season around.
It’s League Cup Champions versus The Comeback Kids. Confidence is high in both camps.
That means just one thing in football — draw. And 6/10 similar results in this fixture only backs this theory.
Gyano’s Predos: 1-1
Tottenham vs Man U
It’s been over a decade since Tottenham defeated Manchester United at White Hart Lane in the league. This is by far the most competitive, one-sided fixture in the Premier League.
Tottenham has not scored in their last three league meetings with the champions and have lost two games in the process.
Expect quite a lot to change this weekend, especially if the Spurs want to be taken seriously as contenders to the title.
Their 2-5 defeat to Arsenal, though surprising, will sap confidence more than anything else.
Fergie’s men on the other hand don’t need any more inspiration than Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
Predo: Spurs 2-2 United
