Debnath joins Pune FC
Pune FC have brought on board experienced goalkeeper Arup Debnath for the upcoming I-League season. The 25-year old, West Bengal-born joins Pune FC after a season’s stint with Mumbai Tigers FC and will be the third goalkeeper in the squad after Shahinlal Meloly and Amrinder Singh.
Arup, who is Pune’s fourth signing in run up to the 2013-14 season after Prakash Thorat (striker), Jovel Martins and Anthony D’Souza (both midfielders), was on their radar back in 2009-10 but the deal materialised only now.
Debnath began his career as a 19-year-old for East Bengal in the 2006-07 season. But for the two seasons he stayed at the Kolkata giants, he had limited playing opportunities because of the presence of established goalkeepers like Naseem Akhtar, Abhra Mondal, and Subrata Paul.
In the 2008-09 season, Debanth signed up for Air India and excelled as a first-choice keeper in the team. His string of good performances helped him establish a name and he rejoined East Bengal for the 2009-10 season. However, like his previous stint, Debnath had a limited role to play at the club.
The following season (2010-11), Debanath returned to Air-India and had a good start to the season in the seven games he played before suffering a serious hand injury. Post his rehabilitation, Debanth joined Kenkre FC ahead of the I-League 2nd Division qualifiers during 2011-12. Thereafter, Debnath joined Mumbai Tigers for the 2012-13 season.
