A consistent performer
V.V. Surjith, the wing-back of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), had a satisfying outing as part of the State team in the Santosh Trophy final.
The player was one of the more consistent players in the team, who have played their best to take them to semifinals.
The former Viva Kerala and SBT player has bagged accolades for his consistent performance and crisp crosses for the State team in the tourney.
“As a team, we played our best. We were unlucky in the semifinal match against Services. The team is very much disappointed,” he says.
The player is now keen in playing in the I-league. “When I was playing for Viva Kerala, I had several offers from now Prayag United, Mahindra United and Salgaocar teams but was not able to accept it because of personal problems.
Now I am looking forward for a good opportunity in the league,” said the 24-year-old player who hails from Thrissur.
Surjith, who played as right wing-back, donned the role of stopper in the last two matches of the team due to injury.
"Positional changes due to injury was a major blow for us in the semifinal. But still we were close to victory,” he said.
The player, who groomed his talent in Kerala Varma College in Thrissur, was also a major contributor to the KSEB’s victory in the State Club Championship held in Palakkad.
This is his third-straight Santosh Trophy campaign. He was also in the squad last two years.
"Surjith has been a consistent performer in the squad. He played a pivotal role in the team in both attack and defense.
Along with him, K. Rakesh (midfielder) and T. Sajith (defender) were the other consistent performers in the tournament,” says M.M. Jacob, coach of Kerala Santosh Trophy team.
