B.N. Railway champions
Minnows B.N Railway lifted the fourth E.K Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup toppling Air India 3-2 in a highly-spirited final at Kozhikode Corporation Stadium here on Wednesday.
The match, which saw six yellows and two red cards, had plenty of drama for the 15,000-odd spectators gathered at the venue.
The opener came in the 30th minute, against the run of the play, as Railway captain Ajay Saha neatly tapped in a cross by Asim Das. However, Railway were not able to hold on the advantage as Air India's Royston D'Souza equalised in the added minute of the first half.
In the second half, Saha re-took the lead for Railways as in the 72nd minute he converted a rebound from Air India custodian Pawan Kumar. Railway made it 3-2 in the six-minute of the added time in a counter attack.
However, the action did not end as in the next minute Air India were awarded a penalty, in which Manjit Singh score his first goal of the tournament.
Though most of the time Air India controlled the game in the second half, missed chances became too costly for the I-League.
